The Albright College women's tennis team's hopes of returning to the Commonwealth Conference playoffs took a hit as the Lions were beaten 6-3, Tuesday at local rival Alvernia.
Albright, the third seed in last year's playoffs, is now 8-4 and 1-2 in the Commonwealth, while Alvernia moves to 2-1 in league play.
The Lions took the top doubles point, as
Victoria Foanio and
Alyssa Sell won an easy 8-0 decision.
Alvernia led heading into singles play however, beating
Elizabeth Bengtsson/
Melissa Carberry 8-1 at second doubles and
Lauren Sperling/
Erin Sullivan 8-2 in the third spot.
Foanio (6-1, 6-2) and Sell (6-2, 6-2) earned emphatic victories in the top two singles places, but it was the final two points Albright would earn on the day.
Bengtsson came the closest, losing 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to
Jennifer Innamorato at fourth singles.
