The Albright College women's basketball team did not allow a field goal for the opening 13:09 of the game, in an 87-31 victory over visiting Penn State-Berks on Monday.
Sophomore
Kadijah Bishop had a career day with 16 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Classmate
Kelecia Harris also had a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards.
Emily O'Donnell and
Shawn Barczynski had 12 points each as the Lions dominated inside.
Guards
Shannon Thomas and
Kristi McFadden each had six assists.
Jessica Venturelli and
Allison Hardwick added four helpers each, while
Courtney Weibley had three.
Cecilia Perez had six points late, while
Niavanni Grant pulled down five rebounds. Freshman
Morgan Harris added three steals.
The Lions only allowed three field goals in the entire first half, the first two of which were bank shots.
Amber Hess-Moore finally scored for the visitors by banking in a long three-pointer with 6:51 left before halftime, making it 29-6 Albright.
Harris and O'Donnell opened the half with putbacks, and a three-point play from Harris gave the Lions an early 9-1 lead. Harris blocked a shot and released for a fast break bucket, then scored again for a 13-1 lead and a Berks timeout.
Thomas stole a pass and went the other way to make it 15-1 Albright. The rookie sank a three-pointer soon after for a 21-1 home advantage.
Bishop had eight points, seven rebounds and four steals in 10 first half minutes, and her follow-up gave Albright a 27-3 lead midway through the period. Harris fed Venturelli on the fast break for a 29-3 scoreline.
Barczynski's put-back with 4:15 left in the first half gave Albright a 37-7 advantage. The senior finished again, following Thomas' offensive rebound, for a 41-9 scoreline.
Albright took a 40-point lead, 53-13, on Harris' free throw early in the second half. The Lions went up by 50 with 9:01 remaining, when Barczynski finished off a pass from McFadden on the break to make it 73-23.
The Lions improve to 8-5 overall, and will resume Commonwealth Conference play on Wednesday at Hood.
