The Albright College women's basketball team hosted the 22nd-ranked Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College at home in the Bollman Center. Victors in their previous two games, the Lions fell 74-64 for just their third home loss of the season.
This marked the eighth consecutive Albright-LVC game in which the Dutchmen entered with a national ranking. The Dutchmen came into the game with a 12-2 record, including 6-1 in conference play.
Sophomore
Kadijah Bishop had a double-double for Albright, leading the team in points (13) and rebounds (10).
Emily O'Donnell had another good game for the Lions, contributing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Amanda Tiritilli was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Kiely Chaklos led the way for the Dutchmen with 18 points, three rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Guard
Taylor Umbrell scored 11 points and collected four rebounds. Sophomore guards
Bridget Rothert and
Peyton Carper each added 10 points.
The Lions took an early 7-2 lead to start the game before the Dutchmen were able to come back and tie it at eleven on a three pointer from Carper.
After several lead changes the two teams remained close until Lebanon Valley took a 26-21 lead late in the first half. The Lions erased the lead, tying it at 26 apiece on a
Shannon Thomas trey.
The Dutchmen quickly pulled away again and found themselves with a 40-32 advantage. The Lions shortened the lead on a three pointer from Tiritilli with one second left in the half to bring them within five.
After the half the Lions scored quickly on back-to-back possessions with assists from junior
Jessica Venturelli down low to O'Donnell. Lebanon Valley responded with an 11-0 run, the result of three straight 3's and a layup. Down 14 Albright tried to erase the lead, but was unsuccessful in extending their winning streak.
The Lions are now 9-6, 3-5 and will travel to play Lycoming College on January 22 for a 6:00 p.m. game.
