Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brown Helps Arcadia Past Men's Basketball, 74-66

Box Score

Arcadia University went on a 35-13 run over the middle part of the contest, defeating the Albright College men's basketball team 74-66 on Wednesday in Glenside, Pa.

With Albright leading since the early minutes, Arcadia junior Joe Brown got hot midway through the second haf to help the Knights pull ahead. With 13:09 remaining, Brown caught a pass over the top and finished to put his team up 45-44 and force an Albright timeout. He drained a corner three for a 52-46 lead, and then sank another triple with 8:40 to play to make it 55-46.

Kyle Jordan's up-and-under kept Albright within five points (55-50), before John Landro hit a three-pointer with 4:25 left that put Arcadia up 62-54.

Pedro Perez missed a first three-pointer in the final three minutes, but Josh Marquez chased down the rebound and Perez was good on his second try from outside. Albright called timeout, trailing 62-59. The Lions couldn't get back however, despite at one point having an open three-point look to tie with 1:17 remaining.

Jordan had 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting, and added nine rebounds. Perez (15 points) and Sameen Swint (12 points) were also in double-figures for the Lions. Brown had a team-high 16 points for the hosts.

Albright led 33-28 at the break after the Arcadia men matched their women's team with a halftime buzzer beater. Tom Feraco beat the horn for two to keep the hosts close.

Torrell Candelaria hit a three-pointer early as Arcadia jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Perez hit Jordan with a nice bounce pass to get the Lions on the board, and Calvert Gantz followed with a three-point play.

Jordan scored with 15:12 left in the first half to give Albright its first lead of the game, 10-9. He was then fouled in transition and banked in a shot while falling down, adding the free throw for a 16-11 scoreline.

Swint made it 20-13, and later stole an Arcadia pass. He released Devin Brown, who dished off to Marquez on the fast break for a 24-16 Lion lead.

Jordan's put-back with 7:05 on the clock gave Albright a double-digit advantage, 28-18. Perez broke free in transition to make it 33-20.

Swint completed a drive in traffic to open the second half. Arcadia came right back with a pair of buckets to inch to within three points. Landro drained one from downtown for a 40-39 scoreline.

Arcadia was playing without two of its three leading scorers from the last time these teams met. Returning All-Commonwealth selection Travis Saltus (19 points back on December 4) was out injured while Aaron Lee-Webb (13 points) was not with the team. Brown, who tied a game-high with 19 points that day, made his presence known however.

Albright falls to 10-8, 6-5 and will travel to face #22 Messiah on Saturday. The Lions remain two games ahead of Lycoming and Elizabethtown for fifth place in the Commonwealth, after both those teams lost as well. LVC is also tied with Lyco and Etown at 4-7.
