The Lions attempted to rally late, but couldn't overcome a slow start in a 62-54 loss to Stevenson University on Wednesday in the Bollman Center.
Sophomore
Kelecia Harris made 8-of-12 shots to finish with 20 points, and senior
Meghan Boyle added 10 points. Both just missed a double-double, with nine rebounds each. Freshman
Shannon Thomas added 11 points.
The early part of the second half was plagued with turnovers, as each side committed four in the opening 2:02 of the period. Albright added three more in the next three minutes, but Stevenson reciprocated as the two teams only scored two points apiece in the first six-plus minutes.
Thomas broke that run with a pair of free throws, and another Stevenson turnover led to Harris cutting the deficit to single digits (40-31).
A fast break from Thomas brought Albright to within eight, and Harris' three-point play cut it to 50-43 with 7:46 remaining.
The Lions kept riding Harris, as she scored to make it 51-45 and then blocked a shot at the other end. Her put-back off a missed free throw then made it 55-51 with 4:13 to play.
Stephanie Martinez responded with a dagger three-pointer for the visitors however, and the Lions would not get any closer than four points the rest of the way.
Albright trailed by as much as 19 in the first half, 38-19 on a pair of
Kyarra Harmon free throws, but closed with the final six points before halftime.
Harris' three-point play tied the contest early at 5-5, but Stevenson soon took an 18-9 lead on Martinez' hoop off a turnover that forced Albright to take a timeout.
Another Lion turnover and a fast break bucket for
Kayleigh Guzek made it 28-13 and led to another timeout. Albright closed well however, with a Thomas three-pointer cutting it to 38-24. Albright entered the locker room down just 38-25 after a Harris free throw in the final minute.
Albright falls to 7-4, 2-3 and will travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday. Stevenson (6-6, 4-1) will play for first place on Saturday, at home vs. Lebanon Valley.
