GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Albright College men's soccer team hung with the top-ranked team in the nation for a half, but Messiah scored five second-half goals on its way to a 7-0 Commonwealth Conference victory over the Lions on Saturday at Shoemaker Field.
Albright, which saw its record drop to 6-9-1 overall and 1-4 in the Commonwealth, trailed by just 2-0 at halftime but the Falcons scored three goals in 3:38 early in the second half to pull away from the Lions.
Messiah remained undefeated on the season as the Falcons improved to 14-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play with the win.
Six different Messiah players scored on evening led by Jeremy Payne who scored a pair of goals. Mike Kovach added a goal and two assists and Jack Thompson and Zack Bosshard each had a goal and an assist.
Vitali Zaluha and
Nathan Hughes led Albright with two shots each, while
Shawn Murphy,
Chris Bucks and
Keegan Frick each had one shot.
David Oram made his second consecutive start in goal and made eight saves for the Lions.
Albright returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 22) when it hosts Stevenson in a Commonwealth Conference match at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
