GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Albright College women's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday at the hands of top-ranked Messiah 3-0 at Shoemaker Field.
Messiah, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, improved to 14-0-1 and 4-0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.
Albright, which was 4-1-1 in its last six matches, dropped to 7-7-1 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Lions have remaining matches against Stevenson, Widener and Arcadia as they try and secure a berth in the five-team Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
The Lions could not get their offense untracked on Saturday as the Falcons limited Albright to zero shots on the afternoon. Meanwhile, Messiah racked up 24 shots including 13 on goal.
Messiah scored just 1:47 into the match when Marisa Weaver scored off an assist by Kyele Bridel giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Albright defense then clamped down and held the Falcons scoreless until two late goals in the second half. Macauley Soto scored at 86:38 and Nikki Elsaesser added a goal at 87:59.
Jaymee Stepp made 10 saves in goal for the Lions.
Albright returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 21) when it hosts Stevenson in a Commonwealth Conference match at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium. The match will be live streamed at
