Field Hockey Loss to Stevenson Ends Commonwealth Tournament Hopes

READING, Pa. -- The Albright field hockey team entered Saturday's showdown with Stevenson seeking a win in hopes of securing a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, but the Mustangs emerged with a 5-0 victory over the Lions at Mustang Stadium.

The Lions loss coupled with Messiah's victory over Widener and Alvernia's win over Lebanon Valley eliminated Albright from Commonwealth Conference Tournament consideration.

Albright mustered four shots and had eight penalty corners, but could not dent the scoreboard against Stevenson. The loss drops the Lions record to 2-16 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Stevenson, which improved to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the Commonwealth, received two goals each from Caitlin Dempsey and Alison Kagel.

Albright received two shots each from Amanda Smith and Mackenzie Faight. Senior Gabby Frake made two saves in goal for the Lions.

Albright will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 28) when it visits Messiah in its final Commonwealth Conference game of the season.
