CHESTER, Pa. -- The Albright men's soccer team saw its postseason hopes come to an end on Saturday when it dropped a 2-0 Commonwealth Conference decision to Widener at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
The Lions entered the match needing to win their final two matches and needing help from several other teams to qualify for the Commonwealth Tournament, but the Pride scored a goal in each half to post the victory.
Widener, which improved to 10-5-1 overall and 3-4 in conference play, got on the board in the first half when Eric Taylor scored from six yards out on a pass from Ross Staudt.
The Pride pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 52:22 mark of the match when Austin Olenhouse headed home a shot off a pass from Eric Taylor.
Albright, which fell to 6-11-1 and 1-6 in the Commonwealth Conference, put forward seven shots on the night.
Chris Bucks led the Lions attack with three shots, while
Austin Phillips,
Dan Scofield,
Peter Bockarie and
Sorosh Tourzani each had one.
Austin Aldinger made three saves in goal for Albright.
Albright will conclude its 2014 season on Tuesday (Oct. 28) when it hosts Arcadia at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium, which will be senior night for the Lions.
