Omari Ringgold scored a career-high 22 points, but Albright fell to Hartwick 84-75 in the opening round of the Albright Holiday Tournament on Monday in the Bollman Center.
Albright (4-5) will face Delaware Valley, who lost to Buena Vista 114-107 in triple overtime, in the consolation game on Tuesday (Dec. 30) at 2 p.m. Buena Vista and Hartwick will play for the tournament championship at 4 p.m.
This marks Albright's first-ever loss in an opening round game of the Albright Holiday Tournament. The Lions entered the contest against Hartwick with a 7-0 career mark in first-round meetings.
Trevor Norton poured in 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor, which included making 5-of-7 from beyond the three-point line, to lead the Hawks. Joey Lufkin added 20 points and Jake Sinicki had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Ringgold was 9-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the three-point line to pace Albright. His 22 points topped his previous career high of 19 points at Widener.
Josh Marquez had 16 points and eight assists for Albright and
Evan Ward finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hartwick, which improved to 6-4 on the season, made 12-of-29 three-point attempts for the game and finished the contest shooting 47.5 percent from the floor.
Albright outshot the Hawks with a 48.4 percent effort, but made just 6-of-19 three-point attempts.
The Lions shot a blistering 59.3 percent from the floor in the first half, but the Hawks made 8-of-17 three-pointers to enter the intermission deadlocked at 42-42.
After Hartwick took an early five-point lead in the second half the Lions stormed back.
A layup by Sinicki gave Hartwick a 50-49 lead, but back-to-back three-pointers from
Gilberto Benz and Ringgold gave Albright a 55-50 lead with 13:29 to play in the game.
A jumper from
Nelson Goodwater and a layup by
DeJuan Smith gave the Lions their largest lead of the second half at 59-52 with 12:30 to play.
The Hawks responded with a 9-0 run to regain the lead at 61-59 with 9:48 left in the second period.
A three-point play by Goodwater gave Albright its last lead of the game at 64-63 with 7:40 remaining in the second half.
Hartwick ripped off a 10-0 run, sparked by four points each from Lufkin and Norton, to take a 73-64 lead with 3:59 remaining in the game.
Albright would get no closer than five points during the remainder of the contest.
