ASTON, Pa. -- Sophomore
Shannon Thomas led six players in double figures in scoring with 17 points and Albright used its balanced attack to cruise to an 86-64 non-conference victory over Neumann on Tuesday in the Mirenda Center.
Thomas finished the game 6-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line to finish in double figures for the second straight game and the fifth time this season.
Albright, which raised its record to 8-3 overall, has won six of its last seven games. The Lions shot a season-best 63.0 percent from the field for the game, which included a 72.0 percent shooting performance in the first half.
The Lions also received 14 points from
Kelecia Harris and 12 points from
Kadijah Bishop.
Emily O'Donnell finished with 11 points and
Jane Joyce and
Jessica Venturelli each scored 10 points for Albright.
Neumann, which was limited to just 32.8 percent shooting for the game, dropped to 3-6 overall with the loss. The Knights were led by Lauren Legler who scored 16 points, while Jessica Schlesman and JoHanna Metzger each scored 14 points.
Neumann jumped out to a 10-4 lead to begin the game, but the Lions quickly rallied.
Two free throws by Harris ignited an 8-0 run which gave Albright its first lead of the game at 12-10 with 12:59 to play in the first period.
After Metzger tied the game at 12-12 with a layup the Lions took the lead for good when Harris connected on a jumper with 11:03 remaining in the opening half.
The Lions extended the lead to 20-12 on a layup by Joyce, but the Knights answered with a 7-1 run to trim the lead to 21-19 at the 7:03 mark of the first half.
Venturelli drilled a three-pointer igniting a 13-4 Albright run that pushed the lead to 34-23 with 2:29 before halftime.
A pair of free throws by Schlesman cut the lead to 34-25, but Albright closed the half on a 6-1 run to take a 40-26 lead into the intermission.
Albright was never threatened in the second half as the Lions held a double-digit lead throughout the period and took their largest lead of the night at 86-59 when
Cecilia Perez connected on a jumper with 1:43 left in the game.
Albright returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday (Jan. 3) when it hosts Stevenson at 2 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
