The Albright College men's basketball team faces a tough final two weeks of the season, as the Lions battle with rival Lebanon Valley down the stretch for a spot in the Commonwealth Conference tournament.

Commonwealth Standings

Albright's loss at Lebanon Valley on Saturday was costly, as the Dutchmen proceeded to beat these Hood Blazers 69-63 on Monday to move into a tie for the fifth and final playoff spot. With LVC holding a 2-0 head-to-head advantage over Albright, the Lions must be a game better than the Dutchmen over these final two weeks to make the conference tournament.

Hood is tied for third place with Stevenson at 9-5, so Albright could move to at least within a game of those two squads as well by winning both Maryland matchups this week (the Lions play at Stevenson on Saturday). LVC travels to Lycoming tonight.

Albright College Lions (11-10, 7-7)

Long scoring droughts by the two teams have characterized both Albright's last performance and the Lions' previous meeting with the Blazers.

Albright held Lebanon Valley without a field goal for 12:03 of the second half on Saturday but couldn't erase a 10-point deficit over that stretch, ultimately falling 58-55. On Jan. 15 in Frederick, Md., the Lions held Hood to just one field goal over a stretch of 11:24, but lost 61-60 after holding just a 19-18 lead at the half.

Senior Pedro Perez leads Albright in scoring (16.6 ppg), while freshman Sameen Swint is up to 13.7 points per contest.

Hood College Blazers (15-6, 9-5)

Hood was picked seventh in the Commonwealth preseason coaches poll, but the Blazers only have two losing seasons in their history and surged to a 15-4 overall record before dropping consecutive home games to Widener (82-77) and Lebanon Valley.

Hood won a remarkable seven straight conference games that were decided on the final possession or in overtime, before their current two-game skid. After beating Arcadia by two and the Lions by one, Cameron Cook hit three consecutive game-winners in the final five seconds to beat Widener, Lebanon Valley and Messiah. The Blazers proceeded to knock off Stevenson 63-62 and then survive in overtime vs. Arcadia.

1,000 Point Watch

Senior Kyle Jordan needs 19 points to become the 35th player in Albright men's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Jordan is averaging 14.7 ppg this season, and 9.7 ppg over 101 career contests. The last Albright player to reach 1,000 points was Derek Hall, in a Feb. 18, 2012 home win over Widener.
