Albright Concludes Colorado Trip With 15-9 Loss to Fort Lewis

Box Score

The Albright College women's lacrosse team played a Division II opponent for the second straight night, losing 15-9 to Fort Lewis in Grand Junction, Colo.

Freshman Giuliana Rizzotti led the way with six points on five goals and one assist. Amanda Smith scored twice and had seven draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Defensively, Smith, Nicole Klusewitz and Rizzotti all forced multiple turnovers. Freshman goalie Hayley Joyce came off the bench to make five saves in just under 31 minutes of action.

Rizzotti and Lexi Garapola scored consecutive goals in an early 29-second span to tie the contest at 2-2.

Smith halted a 3-0 Fort Lewis run, but the Skyhawks run off three more unanswered goals for an 8-3 lead with 1:30 left in the first half. Albright did win the draw and Rizzotti was immediately fouled, leading to a free position goal for the Lions before the break.

Katie Johnson scored with 23:06 remaining to keep the Red and White close at 10-6, but the Skyhawks struck twice in the next 1:33 to pull away.

Albright had another great day on the draw, winning 17-of-25 draw controls (including a 10-2 advantage in the first half). Fort Lewis held a 29-19 advantage in shots however, while winning the turnover and ground ball battles.

The Lions are 4-4 on the season and will host Misericordia University on Monday at 4 p.m.
