Women's Lacrosse Drops Conference Opener at Stevenson

Box Score

Despite playing even after halftime, the Albright College women's lacrosse team fell 20-5 to Stevenson in the Lions' Commonwealth Conference opener on Saturday.

The hosts' shot advantage was just 28-15, but Stevenson goalies Leanne Bittner and Maggie Lawder combined to stop six of 11 shots on goal compared to just four saves for the Red and White. Albright also managed just 7-of-14 clears against the Mustangs, who are receiving votes in the IWLCA national poll.

Freshman Giuliana Rizzotti scored twice for Albright, while Erin Farrell, Rebecca Sartorio and Mariah Cullen each added one goal.

Sophomore Nicole Klusewitz had a team-high four ground balls and won two draw controls. Meghan Wilson (one assist) and Amanda Smith caused two turnovers each.

Rizzotti opened Albright's scoring with 11:03 left in the first half, converting a free position shot to make it 6-1.

The Mustangs benefitted from four man-up goals in the first half, and ran off 10 straight in the 11 minutes following Rizzotti's goal.

Farrell scored right off the draw to open the second half, and Cullen added a man-up goal with 1:33 played in the second period.

Senior Marissa Meiklejohn had five goals for Stevenson, with Leah Warner adding three assists. Freshman Olivia Monteiro added four points on two goals and two assists.
