Box ScoreThe Albright College women's lacrosse team grabbed a 15-6 Commonwealth Conference victory over Lycoming, Thursday in Shirk Stadium.
Sophomore
Erin Farrell (four goals, two assists) totaled six points to lead the Lions.
Amanda Smith (four goals) and
Meghan Wilson (three goals) also had hat tricks to each move to 96 career goals.
Sophomore
Rebecca Sartorio scored twice, while adding an assist and a game-high three caused turnovers. Freshman
Giuliana Rizzotti had a goal, an assist and three draw controls for the hosts.
Albright got on top early from the 8-meter arc. After Lycoming goalie
Casey Martindale (13 saves) stopped
Mariah Cullen point-blank following a nice pass from Rizzotti, the Warrior got a piece of Wilson's free position but the shot trickled through to open the scoring.
Sartorio's free position goal made it 2-0. Wilson stripped a defender and picked up the ground ball for a second time already in the game, leading to Smith's FPA and a 3-0 scorline.
Wilson won the ensuing draw, spun past a defender and struck just 11 seconds later. Farrell then converted yet another free position shot to make it 6-1.
With 13:13 left in the first half, Rizzotti was under pressure but whipped a backhand pass to Smith, who followed with a backhand shot of her own into the cage. After the Warriors cut it to 7-2, Wilson tallied again right off the draw. Smith won the next draw and Farrell scored eight seconds later, giving Albright two goals in a 24-second span following
Amber Graybill's score.
Lycoming opened the second half with two goals but Albright again answered quickly, this time after 17 seconds, as Farrell fed Smith for the tally. Farrell assisted Smith on the next goal as well to make it 12-4 Lions.
With 18:11 remaining, Sartorio managed to control a draw behind the entire Lycoming team, breaking in for a 14-5 lead. Goalie
Emily Hutson saved a pair of free position shots and Sartorio assisted Farrell for a 10-goal gap.
Albright held a pair of events- a Mandela game as part of Albright's semester-long tribute to Nelson Mandela, and also a youth night. Youth players from the area were invited on the field for photographs, and a high school game between Wilson and Wyomissing followed the Lions' win.
Albright is 6-9, 1-4 and moves up a spot in the Commonwealth standings ahead of the Warriors (5-10, 1-5). The Lions host rival Alvernia on Wednesday in Shirk Stadium, and will potentially need a five-goal victory to remain alive for the conference playoffs.
