After the deficit was cut to one with 10 seconds remaining, junior
Darian Meador won the faceoff against Stevenson's
Brent Hiken (19-of-22), who had been controlling the draw all day.
Philip Potter got off a decent shot at the buzzer, but it went wide.
Trailing 11-8 with a minute left, Albright nearly pulled off a furious rally.
Cam Cetrone assisted Phil Potter with exactly 60 seconds remaining to make it 11-9. Hiken won the faceoff but Potter stripped a Stevenson defenseman, and
Andrew Potter scored man-up with 10 seconds left to set up a tight finish.
The Lions had briefly taken a surprise lead in the third quarter, as sophomore
Matthew Lomady tallied with 7:41 left in the period for an 8-7 Albright advantage on the road.
A. Potter and
James Egleston each scored twice for the Lions, with Cetrone adding a goal and two assists.
Senior goalie
Jordan DiZenzo made 21 saves to keep the Lions in it, including seven in the fourth quarter. He also picked up seven ground balls. Junior
Darian Meador totaled six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Stevenson won 20-of-24 faceoffs, and the Mustangs were good on 20-of-21 clears.
Stephen Banick and
Billy Burgoyne led the way with two goals and an assist each.
Stevenson scored three quick goals in the opening 2:12, but Albright responded through
Mike Southwick and Poitras to cut the deficit to 3-2 midway through the first quarter. Down 3-0, Albright also had a crucial penalty kill on a 30-second holding call five minutes in.
Stevenson took a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter after winning the game's first seven faceoffs.
Trailing 7-5 at halftime, the Lions rallied with three straight goals in the third quarter. A. Potter opened the run, and Egleston tied it before Lomady gave Albright an 8-7 lead.
Stevenson held Albright scoreless for the next 21:41 however, taking a 10-8 lead as Burgoyne snuck one under DiZenzo and adding to it on
Sam Wyatt's goal 59 seconds later.
Albright is 11-6 on the season, while Stevenson (17-2) earns an automatic NCAA bid after winning a second straight Commonwealth Conference championship by one goal.
