READING, Pa. --
Tracy Snyder and
Amanda Long each scored goals and the Albright College field hockey team opened Commonwealth Conference play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Widener on Thursday at Shirk Stadium.
Snyder tallied her goal in the first half and Long added a goal in the second to lead the Lions to their first victory of the season.
Gabby Frake backstopped the Albright victory by turning away two shots.
Snyder got the Lions on the board in the first half as she scored on a backhand shot that beat Magie Karmeris at the 4:25 mark putting Albright ahead 1-0.
Long then added to the Lions lead by scoring off of a penalty corner. Long took a pass from
Kendra Delgado and scored off the right post to increase the Albright lead to 2-0 at the 44:37 mark of the match.
Frake then made the two goals stand up as she posted her first shutout of the season. The two goals scored by Albright also tied its season high for goals.
