READING, Pa. – Freshman
Brittany Lutz tallied two goals as the Albright women's soccer program cruised to a 4-0 victory over Hood in a MAC Commonwealth match on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
Led by Lutz, Albright extended its winning streak to five straight, all coming via shutouts, and stayed undefeated in conference play. The five-match winning streak marks the first for Albright since the team won five straight in 2010.
Albright freshman
Payton Bogatch continued her outstanding play in net for the Lions. She played 82:19 on Saturday, which extended her scoreless streak on the season to 397:19.
While Bogatch and the Albright defense shut down Hood, Lutz scored the first two goals of her career to pace the Lions offensive attack.
Lutz scored the first goal of the match in the 42nd minute off of a pass from
Erica Bross to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Lutz pushed the Albright lead to 2-0 as she took a pass from
Emily Saxon and beat the keeper to increase the lead for the Lions.
As the first half came to an end, the Lions had outshot the Blazers 9-2 and earned six corner kicks to their opponents none.
Albright's offense was not finished in the second stanza as junior
Dylan Shipe scored with 79:32 showing on the clock to give the Lions a 3-0 edge as
Emily Sousa earned the assist.
In the 88th minute,
Sara Glatzhofer notched the final goal of the match to extend the lead to 4-0. It marked Glatzhofer's first of the season and
Summer Slusser posted an assist on the goal.
With the victory, Albright improved to 7-4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play and are 5-1-1 in Shirk Stadium this season. Hood falls to 4-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.
Sousa and
Megan O'Brien paced the Lions offense with three shots apiece in the contest.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday (Oct.13) as the team travels to Alvernia to play a MAC Commonwealth conference match against the Crusaders at 7 p.m.
