Gerrod Gainer had 150 yards receiving and a touchdown, but Albright suffered its first loss of the season with a 28-23 setback at the hands of Delaware Valley on Saturday in the 65th Annual Pretzel Bowl.
It was an uncharacteristic day for the Lions, as Albright turned the ball over twice, missed two field goals and also missed an extra point in tasting defeat for the first time during the 2015 season.
Dashawn Darden connected with Michael Jensen from 26 yards out on a 4th-and-7 play with 9:11 to play in the fourth quarter that put Delaware Valley in front to stay.
Albright, which dropped to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play, went three and out on its next drive. The Aggies took over on their own 37 yard line and ran out the final 7:28 of the game to claim the win and raise their record to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.
Delaware Valley jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Aggies took their opening possession following an interception and marched right down the field covering 30 yards in five plays and took a 7-0 lead when Darden found Jensen from 16 yards out.
Delaware Valley extended the lead to 14-0 when Tyler Bing took a jet sweep and raced 70 yards for a touchdown to up the lead to 14-0 with 1:46 to play in the first period.
Albright got on the board early in the second quarter when
Roemello Monroe capped a 74-yard drive with a 6-yard run that cut the Aggies lead to 14-7.
Following a short Delaware Valley punt midway through the quarter, the Lions took over on the Delaware Valley 37-yard line and needed only three plays to reach the end zone. Freshman
Mike Knight found
Malik Gilmore from 26 yards out and the Lions knotted the score at 14-14 with 6:54 to play before halftime.
The Lions then capped the 20-0 outburst when Knight connected with Gainer for a 9-yard touchdown to put Albright in front 20-14 with 28 seconds to play in the first half.
Delaware Valley reclaimed the lead when Armani Fuller-Williams scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter giving the Aggies a 21-20 lead with 4:08 to play in the quarter.
The Lions responded to regain the lead when
Daniel Sobolewski drilled a 40-yard field goal to give Albright a 23-21 lead with 14:16 to play in the game.
The Aggies answered right back on their next drive and took the lead for good when Darden found Jensen for the touchdown.
Albright returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 31) when it visits King's for a MAC game beginning at 1 p.m.
