READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer squad dropped a 6-0 decision to Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth match on Saturday on Senior Night in Shirk Stadium.
Prior to the start of the contest, seven seniors were honored as they wore their white jerseys for a final time at Shirk Stadium. The student-athletes who were recognized were
Austin Aldinger,
Dylan See,
Oumar Diawara,
Austin Phillips,
Dan Scofield,
Neil Rapp, and
Anthony Daub.
Messiah held a 2-0 advantage at the intermission, but pulled away with a four-goal second period.
With the loss, Albright falls to 1-14-1 overall and 0-7 in the conference while Messiah improves to 11-4-1 on the year and 5-1 in league action.
Aldinger made a total of seven saves in net as he played the entire match in his final home match as a Lion.
The Falcons struck first as Benji Kennel tallied the first goal of the game with 20:38 showing on the clock on a penalty shot.
Seven minutes later, Messiah increased their lead to 2-0 as the goal came off the foot of Will Cochran while Jacob Bender earned the assist on the play.
Less than 10 minutes into the second frame, David Alejos of Messiah notched the third goal of the match past Aldinger in the 54th minute.
Messiah continued to have a very strong second half of play as the Falcons added three more goals. Kennel tallied his second goal of the match at the 62:00 minute mark to put his team up 4-0.
The final two goals of the match occurred in a 17 second span in the 73rd minute. The first was at 73:23 and the final goal of the match came at 73:40. The tallies came off the cleats of Zeb Cross and Kirby Robbins.
Connor Bell and Jonathan Weaver both saw time in net as Bell earned the win making one save in 73 minutes of action.
The Falcons outshot the Lions 26-3 in the match with 14 in the second half. Messiah also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
Nathan Hughes put two shots on the board for Albright and
Andrew Sussingham took one for a total of three shots on the night for the Lions.
Albright returns to the field on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m. at Arcardia for their final match of the year.
