READING, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer program fell to top-ranked Messiah 4-0 on Saturday evening in MAC Commonwealth play on Senior Night in Shirk Stadium.
Prior to the start of the match,
Emily Diaz,
Rebecca Sartorio, and
Taylor Cassedy were honored for all of their hard work over the past four years wearing the red and white jerseys.
After 45 minutes, Albright was deadlocked at 0-0 with the No. 1 ranked team in the nation behind five saves from goalie
Payton Bogatch. But the Falcons pulled away with a strong second half.
Albright dropped to 8-7-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Messiah remained undefeated in MAC Commonwealth competition as the Falcons improved to 14-0-2 overall and 6-0 in the league.
Messiah tallied the first goal of the match three minutes into the second frame as Marisa Weaver notched the goal as Nikki Elsaesser earned the assist.
The Falcons offense continued to generate several opportunities as Messiah scored the next three goals over a nine-minute span. Elsaesser scored the second goal of the match to go up 2-0 over Albright with 69:01 showing on the clock.
The third and fourth goals came in the 75th and 78th minutes by Olivia Snare and Trisha Tshudy respectively. Tshudy's goal was set up by Courtney Wagner.
Messiah had ball possession for most of the match as it recorded 27 shots in 90 minutes of play.
Bogatch made a total of eight saves in the match with four coming in the second stanza as she played in 74 minutes in net.
Christine Allison saw 15 minutes of action between the pipes making one save.
Albright returns to the field on Tuesday (Oct. 27) at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale against Arcadia.
