Delgado’s Overtime Goal Gives Field Hockey a 2-1 Victory Over Arcadia

READING, Pa. – Junior Kendra Delgado scored with 2:32 remaining in overtime lifting the Albright field hockey team to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth game on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.

Delgado took a feed from senior Amanda Smith and powered it past Brittany Hodson lifting the Lions to their sixth win in the last seven games and their first conference win of the season.

The goal by Delgado, which marked her first goal of the season, was her first career game winner.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities in the wide open, 7-on-7 extra period, but the Lions had the answer offensively and defensively.

Albright, which improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, had to overcome an early deficit against Arcadia.

The Knights (4-7, 0-2) took a 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the game when Debbie Wolfe scored off a feed from Tess Brzezynski.

Albright battled back to tie the score on a goal by Tracy Snyder. Working off of a penalty corner, Snyder took a feed from Mackenzie Faight and bounced it past Hodson to knot the score at 1-1 at the 38:32 mark.

The Lions had a golden opportunity to take the lead in regulation, but Delgado's penalty shot went wide of the cage at the 61:45 mark.

Aileen Taylor made several keep stops for the Lions after the initial goal and finished the game with five saves while improving to 7-4 on the season. Her best save the of the game helped to force the extra time when she stoned Rachel Longenecker with a left foot save in the 69th minute.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 6) when they travel to Scranton to face the Royals at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
