WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Albright sophomore
Morgan Valera scored late in the first period to give the women's soccer program a 1-0 victory over Lycoming from Shangraw Complex Saturday afternoon to open up MAC Commonwealth action for both squads.
Thirty eight minutes of action went by between Albright and Lycoming before the ball found the back of the net.
Valera tallied the only goal of the game with 39:01 showing on the clock in the first stanza as her shot went high into the right corner of the net from the left side of the grass past Lycoming's goaltender.
The goal marks the first of the season for Valera.
Erica Bross paved the way for the goal with an assist.
With the victory, Albright (5-4-2, 1-0) ran its current winning streak to three straight matches. The Lions have outscored their opponents 7-0 during the three-match streak.
Payton Bogatch earned her third consecutive victory, and her second straight shutout, between the pipes while making two saves in the match.
The Lions put up a grand total of 16 shots in the match with nine of those in the second stanza compared to Lycoming who tallied just eight shots for the match.
Lycoming's netminder Helen Ross suffered the loss as she made five saves. With the defeat, the Warriors dropped to 7-4 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to Shirk Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 7) as they take on Widener in MAC Commonwealth action under the lights at 7 p.m.
