Smith Overtime Goal Lifts Albright Field Hockey Past Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. -- Albright senior Amanda Smith continued her storybook season as she scored the game-winning goal in overtime to cap a wild finish leading the Lions field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Misericordia on Saturday in non-conference play.

Smith took a pass off a penalty corner and dodged around defenders and Misericordia goalie Angela Pasquini and found the back of the net to secure the win for the Lions. The goal came just 1:01 into the overtime period as Albright improved to 3-1 on the season in overtime games.

The game-winning goal occured, in part, due to the heroics of senior Mackenzie Faight and sophomore Kasey Neiderer. With time winding down in regulation, Neiderer took a penalty corner and fed Faight who hit a rocket past Pasquini to tie the score at 2-2 with no time showing on the clock.

It marked Smith's second game-winning goal in the last week as she also tallied the game-winning goal in overtime on Tuesday as the Lions defeated Alvernia 2-1 to secure a berth in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament.

Smith notched a pair of goals in the game, which upped her single-season school record total to 21 for the year.

Albright, which improved its 12-8 overall, had to rally to defeat the Cougars.

Misericordia, which dropped to 8-11 on the season, jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Colby Eldridge scored an unassisted goal at the 28:41 mark of the first period.

Smith answered in the second period for Albright to tie the score at 1-1 when she scored unassisted at the 44:23 mark of the half.

The Cougars regained the lead at 2-1 when Lindsay Hischak netted an unassisted marker at the 54:41 mark of the second period before Faight tied the score for the Lions at the end of regulation.

Alicia Moore picked up the victory in goal for the Lions as she made two saves in 43:12 of action.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 4) when it visits Messiah in the semifinals of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament at 7 p.m.
