Smith Hat Trick Carries Albright to 8-1 Victory at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. -- Senior Amanda Smith recorded her third hat trick of the season leading the Albright field hockey team to an 8-1 MAC Commonwealth victory over Hood on Friday at Thomas Athletic Field.

Smith, who had previously notched three goals in victories over Keystone and Swarthmore, also added an assist in the game. Smith continues her push to break the school record for goals in a season as her three tallies on Friday gives her 13 for the season, which is only four goals shy of tying the school record of 17 set by Angela Gardner in 2005.

Albright, which improved to 8-5 on the season and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth, notched its second consecutive conference win of the season after dropping its MAC Commonwealth opener to Stevenson.

The Lions dominated Hood as they outshot the Blazers 29-5 and had 11 penalty corners to only two for Hood.

Tracy Snyder added two goals for the Lions, while Kasey Neiderer, Annette Helmandollar and Amanda Long each scored one goal. Mackenzie Faight had a pair of assists to lead Albright, while Smith and Caroline Winterle notched one assist each.

Three Lions spent time in net during the game led by starter Aileen Taylor who made one save and picked up the victory. Julia Pevarnik recorded 14 minutes in goal and Alicia Moore had 20 minutes of playing time.

Snyder, who is second on the team with 12 goals, got Albright off to a fast start by scoring the first two goals of the game. She scored off a penalty corner at the 4:27 mark to give Albright a 1-0 lead and then scored her second goal of the game at the 26:24 mark to push the lead to 2-0.

Smith tallied her first marker at the 27:39 mark of the first period and the Lions took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

Long made it 4-0 Albright just 1:41 into the second period when she scored unassisted.

Neiderer stretched the lead to 5-0 off an assist from Faight at the 39:53 mark and then Smith tallied back-to-back goals to make the lead 7-0 Albright.

Helmandollar capped the scoring for the Lions at the 63:39 mark of the second period off an assist from Winterle.

Hood got on the board at the 65:42 mark when Alexis Briscoe scored an unassisted goal off a rebound.

Albright returns to Shirk Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 14) for a non-conference game against Immaculata at 4 p.m.
