ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Much like the regular season meeting between Albright and Lebanon Valley, Tuesday's women's soccer MAC Commonwealth Tournament match was a tightly contested affair. Unfortunately for the Lions it ended like the regular season contest as the Dutchmen used a late second-period goal to defeat Albright 2-1 at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley captured the regular season meeting 1-0 in overtime at Shirk Stadium and Tuesday's contest appeared headed for extra time until Sammy Bost scored the game-winning goal with just 3:17 left in regulation sending the Dutchmen to a semifinal meeting with Messiah on Thursday.
Bost took a pass from Meghan Ross and one-timed it past Albright keeper
Payton Bogatch to secure the victory for Lebanon Valley.
Albright, which ends its season with an 8-9-2 overall record, battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the contest.
Working off of a free kick,
Rebecca Mallon found
Megan O'Brien in the box and O'Brien one-timed it to the right side of the net at the 67:52 mark of the second period to square the match at 1-1.
Lebanon Valley, which improved to 13-5, turned up the pressure following the Lions equalizer. The Dutchmen fired off nine consecutive shots against Albright, which included a pair of saves from Bogatch, before Bost finally found the back of the net.
Albright, which was appearing in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years, generated one last scoring opportunity but a shot by
Suzanne Kuhrmann was wide of the net.
The Lions could muster just five shots on the afternoon led by O'Brien who had two shots. Mallon, Kuhrmann and
Kennedy Lutz also had shots for Albright.
Lebanon Valley generated 23 shots led by Teanna Shutt, who scored the first goal of the match, with seven. Johnna Garbrick finished the match with six shots, while Bost had four shots.
Taylor Reinhold made one save and picked up the victory for the Dutchmen in goal, while Bogatch made five saves for the Lions.
Senior
Emily Diaz made her final appearance in an Albright uniform in Tuesday's match and played 48 minutes.
