HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Senior
Evan Ward scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but Albright lost to Hampden-Sydney 69-53 in the championship game of the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament on Sunday in Fleet Gymnasium.

Ward posted his second consecutive double-double and was named to the all-tournament team. He averaged 11.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in the Lions two tournament games.

Jake Duncan made 7-of-8 three-point attempts and finished with 24 points to lead the Tigers to the tournament championship. Mike Murray added 18 points for Hampden-Sydney, while Guilherme Guimaraes added nine points and eight rebounds.

Hampden-Sydney, which improved to 6-2 on the season, shot 45.8 (11-24) percent from the three-point line. The Tigers also limited Albright to just 29.8 percent shooting for the game, including 23.8 percent in the second half.

Albright, which fell to 3-6 on the season, also received a team-high 15 points from junior
Omari Ringgold, nine points from
Jaylin Calloway and seven points and five rebounds from
DeJuan Smith.

The Tigers used a run midway through the second half to pull away from Albright.

A pair of free throws by
Brandon Lindsay cut the Hampden-Sydney lead to 40-38 with 11:54 to play in the game, but the Tigers responded with a 10-0 run that pushed the lead to 50-38 with 8:16 left in the second half.

Ringgold ended the run with a pair of free throws and Smith added a jumper to trim the lead to 50-42 with 7:20 remaining, but Andrew Evans answered with a three-pointer for Hampden-Sydney to increase the lead to 53-42 at the 7:06 mark.

Calvert Gantz responded with a three-pointer for Albright, but Hampden-Sydney pushed the lead to 58-46 on a free throw by Murray with 4:24 to play.

Albright was unable to get the margin under 10 points for the remainder of the contest.

Albright raced out of the gate in the first period as Ward hit a three-pointer and Ringgold added a three-pointer and a layup giving the Lions an 8-0 lead with 17:09 to play in the first period.

Hampden-Sydney answered with a 7-0 run, including a three-pointer by Duncan, to trim the lead to 8-7 with 14:35 left in the first half.

The Lions then ripped off an 8-0 run as Gantz scored and Calloway converted back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead to 16-7 at the 12:11 mark.

The Tigers then used a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 17-16 with 7:06 left before halftime.

Albright took a 23-22 lead with 2:50 remaining before halftime, but the Tigers regained the lead with a 7-0 run which was capped by three-pointers by Duncan and Murray.

Ward cut the Tigers lead to 30-25 with two free throws, but Murray connected on a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to give Hampden-Sydney a 33-25 lead at halftime.

Albright will return to action on Dec. 29 when it faces Alfred in the opening round of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament in the Bollman Center. Susquehanna will meet Johns Hopkins in the opening game of the tournament at 2 p.m. and the Lions will meet Alfred at 4 p.m.

The consolation game will be played on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. with the championship game to follow at 4 p.m.
