READING, Pa. -- The Albright men's basketball team will conclude 2015 by hosting the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament beginning on Tuesday (Dec. 29) in the Bollman Center.
Albright, Alfred, Susquehanna and Johns Hopkins will vye for the tournament title. Susquehanna will meet Johns Hopkins in the opening game of the tournament at 2 p.m,, while Albright will open tournament play against Alfred at 4 p.m.
The consolation game will be played at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 30) and the two opening-day winners will meet for the championship at 4 p.m.
Albright enters tournament play with a 3-6 overall record and most recently played in the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney. The Lions defeated William Peace in the opening round of the tournament before falling to Hampden-Sydney in the championship game.
Junior
Omari Ringgold leads three Albright players averaging in double figures in scoring at 13.2 per contest.
DeJuan Smith is second on the team averaging 13.1 points per game, while
Evan Ward is averaging 10.4 points per outing.
Ward is the Lions top rebounder as he averages 7.7 per game and was named to the Luck Stone Holiday All-Tournament team.
Alfred, the Lions first round opponent, is currently 4-3 overall. The Saxons reeled off a three-game winning streak, but followed it up with losses in their last two contests against Fredonia and Buffalo State.
Alfred, which is averaging 77.9 points per game, is led by Tyler Seedman who is averaging 16.3 points per game. Eric Adams (12.3) and Dalton Cousin (11.1) also average in double figures for the Saxons. Adams tops the team averaging 10.9 rebounds per game.
Susquehanna enters the tournament undefeated with a 9-0 overall record and is ranked No. 17 in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll. The Crusaders have already won two tournaments at the Monarch Classic hosted by King's and its own Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament.
Josh Miller leads Susquehanna averaging 16.9 points per game, while Steven Weidlich is second on the team averaging 16.6 points per contest.
Johns Hopkins has a 2-4 overall record and halted a three-game losing streak with a 101-94 victory over Ursinus in its last game on Dec. 5. The Blue Jays feature four players averaging in double figures led by Ryan Curran who is averaging 20.5 points per game. Austin Vasiliadis (14.3), Kyle Doran (11.5) and Gene Williams (11.2) also average in double figures for Johns Hopkins.
