Albright Men Host Alvernia in Regular Season Finale

READING, Pa. -- The Albright men's basketball team will close out the 2014-15 season with a Commonwealth Conference game with rival Alvernia on Saturday (Feb. 21) in the Bollman Center.

The Lions are 9-14 overall and 5-10 in the Commonwealth Conference and need a victory against the Crusaders to extend their streak of double-figure win seasons to 12.

The game also marks the final game in the careers of seniors Devin Brown and Casey Burke.

Brown has started nine games this season and is averaging 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 14 points earlier this season versus Penn State-Harrisburg in the Bollman Center.

Burke has appeared in 13 games on the year and is averaging 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He had a career-high 12 points in the Lions victory over Widener in the Bollman Center on Jan. 28.

Albright will be seeking to bring to a halt a three-game losing streak and end the season on a positive note.

Sophomore Omari Ringgold leads Albright averaging 14.3 points per game and has reached double figures in scoring in 19 of the 23 games this season.

Freshman DeJuan Smith is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 per game and has posted double figures in scoring in eight of the last nine games. Over that nine-game stretch he is averaging 15.2 points per contest, which included a career-high 23 points against Widener.

Junior Evan Ward, is ranked 77th in the nation in rebounding, is averaging 10.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest. He leads the team with six double-doubles this year.

Alvernia won the first meeting between the two teams 65-57 as the Lions let a nine point second-half lead slip away. Smith led the Lions with 20 points in the loss.

Alvernia enters the contest with a 14-9 overall record and a 9-6 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. The Crusaders have already locked up a berth in the Commonwealth Tournament and could finish anywhere from second to fifth in the final standings.

With its victory earlier this season, Alvernia leads the all-time series 15-13.

A limited number of free t-shirts will be available to fans for the 4 p.m. game.
