Men's Basketball Hosts League-Leading Lycoming

READING, Pa. – With two victories in its last three games, the Albright men's basketball team continues its pursuit of a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament by hosting league-leading Lycoming on Saturday (Feb. 7) in the Bollman Center.

Albright enters the contest with an 8-11 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. The top five teams in the conference will qualify for the postseason tournament and the Lions are currently in eighth place, but are just one game behind Hood for the final postseason berth.

The Lions won back-to-back games versus Widener and at Lebanon Valley before losing to Stevenson on Wednesday.

Albright, which is 6-4 at home this season, has shot more than 50.0 percent from the floor in each of the past two games. The Lions shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the win at Lebanon Valley and 50.9 percent at Stevenson.

The Lions have been buoyed by the play of freshman DeJuan Smith who is averaging 21.0 points per contest in the last four games. Included in that four-game span was a career-high 23-point effort versus Widener where he broke the school record by going 15-of-15 from the free throw line. Additionally, Smith has made 12 of his last 17 three-point attempts and is shooting 96.3 percent from the free-throw line in the last four contests.

Junior guard Vince Lombardi, who has started the last four games, has eight assists in each of the last two games and sophomore Omari Ringgold leads the team in scoring averaging 14.5 points per game and has posted double figures in scoring in seven straight contests.

Lycoming, which won the first game between the two teams 81-78 in overtime, is currently 15-6 overall and 10-2 in the Commonwealth.

Saturday's contest is also the Lions annual Coaches versus Cancer event. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Reading chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The game will be a part of a doubleheader with the women's team and is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
