DALLAS, Pa. – Junior
Erin Farrell scored a season-high five goals and Albright used a 7-0 run midway through the second half to pull away from Misericordia and record an 18-11 non-conference victory on Thursday at Mangelsdorf Field.
Farrell, who scored her 100
th career goal on Tuesday at Immaculata, continued her hot streak with five goals and an assist to pace the Lions. Farrell has scored nine goals in Albright's last two games.
After Erin Baker brought Misericordia to within 11-10 with a free-position goal, Albright responded with a game-deciding run.
Danielle Carey started the run with an unassisted goal giving Albright a 12-10 lead with 17:04 left in the second half.
Jacqui Montague, who tallied a career-high four goals, increased the lead to 13-10 off an assist by
Rebecca Sartorio at the 15:59 mark.
Albright, which improved to 4-1 on the season, scored two goals in 15 seconds to up the margin to 15-10. Farrell scored a free-position goal at the 15:04 mark and Montague followed with a free-position goal with 14:49 to play in the second half.
Amanda Smith and
Meghan Wilson each scored unassisted goals to push the margin to 17-10, and
Sydney Nankervis capped the outburst with a free-position goal giving Albright an 18-10 lead with 7:03 to play in the game.
Smith finished with three goals for Albright, while Wilson and
Corinne Donohue each had a pair of goals. Nankervis and Carey notched a goal apiece for the Lions.
Emily Hutson made 11 saves in goal for Albright to earn her fourth win of the season.
Hayley Joyce made one save in goal in relief of Hutson.
Alexandra Elmes led Misericordia (0-4) with three goals, while Erin Baker, Melina Juliano, Liz Mulvey and Brooke North each had two goals for the Cougars.
Albright, which scored 18 goals for the second consecutive game, outshot Misericordia 35-28, which included a 20-10 margin in the decisive second half. The Lions also held a 20-10 advantage in draw controls on the afternoon.
The game was a back-and-forth affair until Albright put away with the Cougars with its second-half run.
Albright jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period as Smith and Montague each tallied goals.
Juliano got Misericordia on the board at the 28:16 mark of the first period, but Albright responded with back-to-back goals from Montague and Donohue to take a 4-1 lead with 24:20 left in the first.
Misericordia responded with a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead with 13:47 to play in the opening period.
Donohue ended the run, and tied the game at 5-5, with an unassisted goal with 11:59 to play in the first period.
Elmes put Misericordia back in front with a goal at the 27:05 mark, but goals from Wilson and Farrell gave Albright a 7-6 lead at the break.
Misericordia tied the game early in the second period on a goal by Mulvey, but Farrell scored Albright's next three goals to keep the Lions in front.
Albright will head south to Myrtle Beach, S.C. where it will next face Penn State-Abington on March 14 and New England on March 15.
