Albright Concludes South Carolina Trip with Victory over Morrisville State

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Riley Gerenda pitched her third consecutive shutout and Morgan Cullen homered and drove in three runs as Albright concluded play in South Carolina with an 8-0 victory over Morrisville State on Thursday.

Gerenda allowed just two hits in 5.0 innings of work and struck out 10 batters in registering her third straight shutout. In 17.0 innings pitched this season, Gerenda has surrendered just five hits and has struck out 35 batters, while opponents are hitting .093 against her.

Cullen was 2-for-3 with a homer and three runs batted in to lead the Albright offense. The Lions banged out 12 hits on the day and also received two hits each from Regina Milburn, Armida Roman and Gerenda.

Albright broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning.

With one out, Brianne Long drew a walk and Milburn followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position.

Kaela Romano delivered an RBI groundout that scored Long and put Albright ahead 1-0.

Albright added a run in the fourth inning when Zoe Robertson doubled in Cullen with the second run of the game.

The Lions ended the game by scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Albright loaded the bases to start the inning when Milburn walked, Romano singled and O'Connor drew a free pass.

Roman lofted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Milburn and pushed the Albright lead to 3-0.

Sera Stull followed with a single that plated Romano giving the Lions a 4-0 lead.

Cullen then hammered a three-run homer that plated Stull and O'Connor and gave the Lions a 7-0 cushion.

Gerenda singled and advanced to second on a Mustang error. After a groundout, Long delivered a single that scored Gerenda and ended the game via the run rule.

Albright improved to 6-1 on the season, while Morrisville State dropped to 3-5 on the year.

Albright will return to action on Monday (March 23) when it visits Lebanon Valley for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
