READING, Pa. – Senior
Dylan Boll homered and drove in two runs and
Evan High had three hits as Albright tied Penn State-Berks 8-8 in a game that was after 12 innings due to darkness on Wednesday at Hintz Athletic Field.
Albright, which is 6-5-1 overall, jumped out to a big early lead but could not hold off the Nittany Lions.
The Lions wasted little time in getting on the board as they pushed across a run in the first inning.
Tanner Brescancine reached on an error to lead off the game and advanced to second on a balk. A groundout by
Micah Storms advanced Brescancine to third and he scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions an early 1-0 advantage.
Albright tacked on three runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Brandon Triantos walked to lead off the third inning and stole second base to move into scoring position. Triantos advanced to third on a groundout and scored when Storms singled up the middle to increase the lead to 2-0.
Boll then blasted his second home run of the season to up the Albright lead to 4-0.
The Lions extended the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
High singled to center to lead off the frame and advanced to second when
Joe Pechulis followed with a single to left.
Julian Cimino moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Triantos brought home High with the fifth run of the game with an RBI groundout.
Brescancine singled to center, which brought home Pechulis to increase the Albright lead to 6-0.
Penn State-Berks cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning by scoring three runs.
Albright responded with a run in the top of the sixth inning when Cimino, who had singled, came home on a Nittany Lion fielding error.
Penn State-Berks tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Albright lead to 7-5.
The Lions answered with a run in the top of the seventh inning to increase the margin to 8-5.
Trey Hook produced a two-out single that scored
Max Dundore from second base for the Lions eighth run of the game.
Penn State-Berks added single runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to climb to within 8-7.
Albright was one out away from the win in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Tyler Comport hit a two-out single that scored pinch-runner Colin Myers with the tying run.
Both teams had multiple opportunities to push across a run in extra innings, but neither team could plate a run before darkness settled the issue.
Albright, which had 12 hits, also got two hits from
Gabe Santone and base hits from Brescancine, Storms,
John Medvecky, Pechulis, Hook and Cimino.
Eight different Albright pitchers to the mound, which included a two inning, hitless performance from Brescancine.
Albright returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Thursday (April 2) when it hosts Arcadia at 3:30 p.m. at Kelchner Field.
