Myers Strong Outing Not Enough to Lead Lions to Victory

READING, Pa. – Alex Myers pitched seven strong innings for Albright, but three Arcadia pitchers limited the Lions to just three hits as the Knights defeated Albright 6-0 in a Commonwealth Conference game on Thursday at Kelchner Field.

Myers went 7.0 innings, scattered eight hits and permitted four earned runs while striking out five in his third start of the season. Myers threw 103 pitches, 71 of which were strikes, but fell to 1-2 on the season as the tough-luck loser.

Arcadia starter Jason Goldberg allowed three hits and struck out five in 7.0 innings, while Jonah van Bemmelen and Christopher Keesser each pitched a perfect inning in relief.

Jordan Draude led the Arcadia offense as he was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs driven in. Justin Simpson was 2-for-4 with a home run and Nick Todero had two hits and two RBI.

Gabe Santone, Evan High and Micah Storms each picked up base hits for Albright.

Arcadia improved to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the Commonwealth with the win, while Albright dropped to 6-6-1 overall and 4-4 in league play.

The Knights struck for a run in the first inning when Todero doubled home Adonis Yiantsos giving Arcadia an early 1-0 lead.

Albright put two runners on in the first inning when John Medvecky walked and Santone singled up the field, but a groundout stranded both runners.

The Lions also had two runners on the bottom of the second inning, but that threat was ended with a strikeout.

Arcadia tacked on three runs in the fourth inning with the big blow being a two-run homer by Draude to increase the lead to 4-0.

Albright tried to respond in the bottom of the inning, but once again stranded a pair of base runners.

The Knights added solo runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The two teams will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader at Arcadia on Saturday (April 4) beginning at 1 p.m.
