READING, Pa. – Junior
Sammi O'Connor tossed a complete game two-hit shutout to lead Albright to a 2-0 victory in game two and a split of the Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Arcadia on a windy Thursday afternoon at the Albright Softball Field.
Albright moved to 9-4 overall and are 3-3 in the Commonwealth Conference after splitting its third consecutive league twin bill.
Arcadia captured the opener 3-2 in eight innings, with the aid of three errors by the Lions in the top of the eighth. The Knights are 8-10 overall with a 1-7 mark in the conference.
Freshman
Brianne Long walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning in the nightcap, and scored on a on a wild pitch with two outs to give Albright a 1-0 lead.
Freshman
Regina Milburn went 3-for-3 in the second game, including a double that led to the Lions second run.
Milburn lace a double down the left field line with one out in the third and freshman
Armida Roman knocked a solid single to left with two outs to bring home Milburn and give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Only three runners reached based against O'Connor, who allowed just two hits, had six strikeouts and did not walk a batter to improve to 4-3 on the season. Arcadia's Laura Christine surrendered two runs on six hits with two strikeouts to even her record at 3-3.
Albright trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth of the first game, when it rallied to tie the game at 2-2.
Freshman
Kaela Romano and O'Connor both singled to open the sixth, Roman moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt.
Alyssa Simmons ran for O'Connor at second base, and junior
Morgan Cullen singled home both runners with a base hit to right field.
The Knights took advantage of three errors on the Lions infield to take the lead back in the top of the eight and take the victory in the opener 3-2.
Freshman
Riley Gerenda, who suffered the defeat for Albright pitched eight innings without allowing an earned run on three hits, walked two and struck out seven batters, to fall to 5-1.
Erin Wilson who also collected two hits for Arcadia improved her record to 3-5 on the season allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out 11.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday, (April 4) when Stevenson comes to town for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
