GRANTHAM, Pa. -
Armida Roman smashed her third home run of the season, but it was not enough for Albright as it dropped both ends of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with league-leading Messiah Tuesday afternoon at Starry Field.
Messiah won game 1-0 and finished off the sweep with a 4-1 victory in game two.
The game was scoreless through six and a half innings in the opener, as Messiah's Clarissa Mees pitched a no-hitter through seven innings, and Albright's
Sammi O'Connor allowed only two singles through the first six innings.
After O'Connor retired the first batter in the seventh, Courtney Allen hit a walk-off home run to left to break up the scoreless duel and give the Falcons the 1-0 triumph.
Mees induced 13 groundball outs and walked one without allowing a hit to improve to 14-3 on the season.
O'Connor walked and
Nikki Russo doubled in the first inning of the nightcap for Albright's first hit of the day, but both runners were stranded.
Roman then staked Albright to a 1-0 lead with a drive over the center field fence off of Allen to lead off the second inning.
O'Connor singled with two outs in the third and advanced to second after Russo walked, but Albright could not add to its lead.
Messiah tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth inning, and took the lead with three runs in the sixth.
Allen, who, finished the day going 3-of -4 with two doubles and the walk-off home run, led off the sixth inning with a double and eventually scored the winning run as Messiah scored three runs in the inning to capture the nightcap 4-1.
O'Connor allowed only eight hits and two earned runs in 12.1 innings of work, but took the loss in both games, to fall to 9-8 on the season. Allen struck out 13 Lions to push her record to 7-0.
The Lions are 15-12 overall and 5-11 in the Commonwealth, while the Falcons are 28-7 overall and continue to be undefeated with a 14-0 conference record.
Albright is next in action on Thursday, (April 23) when it hosts Dickinson in a non-conference doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
