Fretz Scores Winning Run in 16th Inning Leading Albright Past Stevenson

READING, Pa. – Sophomore Nathan Fretz scored from second base on a groundout with two outs in the 16th inning leading Albright to a 6-5 Commonwealth Conference victory over Stevenson on Friday at Kelchner Field.

Micah Storms led off the 16th inning with a base hit to left. Pinch-runner Tanner Brescancine was retired at second base when Fretz reached on a fielder's choice.

Fretz moved into scoring position when he stole his team-leading 15th base of the season. Max Dundore then hit a ground ball to shortstop and the throw to first retired Dundore, but Fretz never stopped running on the play and slid home with the winning run just ahead of the catcher's tag.

Albright, which snapped a seven-game losing streak, had plenty of heroes on the day but none was bigger than starting pitcher Alex Myers.

Making his final start in an Albright uniform, Myers was outstanding for the Lions. He went 8.1 innings and struck out six batters while throwing 121 pitches. He left the game with the Lions holding a 5-3 lead, but the bullpen surrendered two runs to force extra innings.

Trevor Mastria then worked two scoreless innings and Trey Eberly allowed only two hits and struck out three in 4.1 innings.

Philip Angelastro worked a perfect 16th inning to pick up the win for the Lions.

Fretz, Dundore, Dylan Boll, Gabe Santone and Zac Okonski each picked up two hits each to lead the Lions 13-hit attack. Santone had two RBI, while Boll and Evan High also drove in a run for Albright.

Stevenson scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Albright bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Dundore hit a one-out double to start the rally and one out later Santone ripped a double to center scoring Dundore and tying the game at 1-1.

Albright took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with some clutch hitting.

Dundore advanced to second on a Stevenson error with two outs and Boll blasted a double to center to score Dundore and give the Lions a 2-1 lead.

Stevenson scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead, but Albright responded with a three-run fifth inning.

Brandon Triantos led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Fretz. Dundore followed with a single and Boll walked to load the bases.

Triantos came home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3, and the Lions took a 4-3 lead when Santone delivered a sacrifice fly to left that scored Dundore.
High then increased the Lion lead to 5-3 when High singled up the middle to score Boll.

That lead held until the top of the ninth inning when Matt Myers delivered a two-run single to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

Albright improved to 12-16-1 on the season and 8-11 in Commonwealth Conference play with a victory in the longest game played during the tenure of head coach Jeff Feiler.

Stevenson dropped to 16-17-2 overall and 11-8 in conference play.

The two teams will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at Stevenson.
