HARRISBURG, Pa. – Junior
Sammi O'Connor allowed just one run in picking up a victory in game two of a doubleheader with Penn State-Harrisburg and broke the Albright single-season record for wins in a season as the Lions earned a split on Saturday.
O'Connor allowed seven hits in her route going performance and permitted just one run as Albright defeated Penn State-Harrisburg 4-1. With the win, O'Connor improved to 12-9 on the season and moved past Ashley Young and Shannon Kline atop the Lions record books.
O'Connor broke the school record for strikeouts in a season earlier this week versus Dickinson.
O'Connor notched eight strikeouts in her game-two victory after striking out seven in the first game.
Albright pounded out 10 hits in the second game led by
Nikki Russo who had three hits.
Kaela Romano and
Zoe Robertson each had two hits for the Lions, while
Morgan Cullen had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.
Penn State-Harrisburg scored an unearned run in the second inning, but Albright rallied to take the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Russo led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a single by
Regina Milburn. The Lions loaded the bases when
Armida Roman reached via a Penn State-Harrisburg error.
After a force out at the plate, Cullen ripped a double that scored Milburn and Roman giving Albright a 2-1 lead.
Robertson followed with a single that scored
Sera Stull to increase the Lion lead to 3-1.
Albright increased the lead to 4-1 when Cullen scored an unearned run when Romano reached on a fielding error.
That was more than enough for O'Connor who recorded six of the final 12 outs of the game via strikeouts.
Penn State-Harrisburg won the opener of the doubleheader 3-1 using a late rally to overtake the Lions.
Albright took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Russo singled with two outs and Milburn reached on a fielding error.
Russo then crossed the plate when Roman reached on another Penn State-Harrisburg error staking Albright to a 1-0 lead.
That lead stood until the bottom of the sixth when Penn State-Harrisburg pushed across three runs, two coming on a single by Amanda Hartman, to take the lead.
Albright raised its record to 18-13 overall, while Penn State-Harrisburg fell to 14-16 on the season.
