FREDERICK, Md. –
Jacqui Montague scored a career-high six goals and Albright clinched the final spot in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 15-6 victory over Hood on Saturday at the Thomas Athletic Field.
The victory, coupled with Alvernia's victory over Lycoming, earned the Lions the No. 5 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Albright will face Arcadia, the No. 4 seed, on a date and time to be determined. This marks the first postseason appearance for Albright in the four years of the program.
Montague also added two assists to finish with a career-high eight points on the day. Her eight total points is tied for second in Albright history, while her six goals is fifth in the Albright record books.
Albright, which improved to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, also received four goals from
Erin Farrell and two each from
Mariah Cullen and
Amanda Smith.
Sydney Nankervis also tallied a goal for the Lions.
Shay Braithwaite had two goals for Hood, which dropped to 4-12 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
Farrell got Albright on the board first with her 40
th goal of the season off an assist from
Meghan Wilson at the 28:57 mark of the first period.
Hood tied the game when Braithwaite scored an unassisted goal with 28:19 to play in the first.
The Lions then went on a 4-0 run led by Farrell and Montague.
Farrell made it 2-1 Albright when she scored her 41
st of the season with 24:51 to play and Montague followed with a goal at the 23:48 mark to increase the lead to 3-1.
Farrell made it 4-1 Albright on a goal off a feed from Cullen with 23:38 left in the first and Montague increased the lead to 5-1 with a goal off a pass from Wilson with 22:48 remaining in the first period.
After a goal by Braithwaite cut the lead to 5-2, Albright ripped off six consecutive goals to take an 11-2 lead into the intermission.
Montague and Smith each scored a pair of goals to spark the Lions to the halftime lead.
Albright extended the run to 9-0 by opening the second period by scoring the first three goals.
Montague scored back-to-back goals to open the half and Nankervis increased the Albright lead to 14-2 with a goal at the 24:04 mark of the second.
Cullen tallied the Lions final goal of the game when she scored unassisted with 14:23 left in the game.
Emily Hutson made three saves in net for Albright to post the victory, while
Hayley Joyce made one save in her 28 minutes of play.
