YORK, Pa. – Freshman
Armida Roman tied the school record by blasting two home runs in game two versus York (Pa.), but Albright dropped both ends of the non-conference doubleheader to the Spartans on Wednesday at Spartan Stadium.
Roman's two homers ties the school record held by
Natalie Carlucci, Meredith Hippert, Christina Kobylinski and Jacqueline Lorenzo.
Junior
Sammi O'Connor carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of game one before the Spartans rallied for a 2-1 victory and completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory in game two.
Albright took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning of game one when O'Connor singled to right to score
Zoe Robertson who had singled to lead off the inning.
O'Connor, who struck out 10 batters, made the lead stand up until the Spartans rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Vanessa Mendez broke up the no-hit bid by singling to center. Carleigh Ruleman tied the game at 1-1 when she doubled to right.
With two outs, Emily Glatts singled up the middle to score pinch runner Maidson Fitzgerald with the winning run.
Albright took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning of game two when Roman homered to right to lead off the inning.
York responded with two runs in the second, four more in the third and a run in the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Albright would fight back into the game though.
The Lions plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning when O'Connor walked and Roman homered to right to trim the Spartan lead to 7-3.
Albright then continued its rally in the top of the seventh inning.
Regina Milburn led off the inning by reaching on an error and advanced to third when
Kaela Romano followed with a double to left. With one out, O'Connor delivered an RBI groundout to score Milburn to cut the lead to 7-4.
Roman reached on an error to keep the inning alive, which allowed Romano to score to bring Albright to within 7-5, but reliever Courtney Martin was able to work out of the threat by inducing a fly out to end the game.
Roman finished the day 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Lions. Robertson had a pair of base hits for Albright in game one, while Milburn, Romano and
Hannah Belair each had two hits in the second game.
O'Connor pitched a total of 10.1 innings on the day and allowed just six hits and struck out 11 batters.
Albright concluded its regular season with a 19-16 overall record, while York improved to 23-19 on the year.
