BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Gabe Santone,
Evan High and
Adam Koval each drove in two runs leading Albright to a 9-5 non-conference victory over Moravian on Tuesday at Gillespie Field.
Santone finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and a run scored, while High was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Koval produced an RBI groundout and drew a bases-loaded walk to account for two runs batted in.
Jared Neiheiser picked up the win for the Lions when he became eligible for the victory when the game was halted after seven innings due to unplayable field conditions. He went 4.0 innings and allowed just two hits and struck out four batters in improving to 3-2 on the season.
Albright, which won for the second straight game, jumped out to a big lead against the Greyhounds and cruised to the victory. The Lions raced out to a 7-0 lead before Moravian could dent the scoreboard.
For the second straight game Albright plated a run in the first inning.
Daniel Louviaux singled with one out and advanced to second when Santone lifted a single to right. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch and Louviaux scored on an errant throw by the Greyhounds.
Noah Beebe led off the Albright second inning with a triple and scored when Koval produced an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 2-0.
Albright tacked on a run in the third inning behind the speed of
Nathan Fretz. Fretz singled to lead off the inning and stole second base. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored when High fouled out to right.
The Lions then blew the game open by scoring four times in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Fretz hit a one-out single and stole second base to start the game-changing rally. Louviaux followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 4-0.
After Louviaux moved up a base on a wild pitch, Santone delivered an RBI single up the middle to push the Albright lead to 5-0.
After
Tanner Brescancine was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Beebe and Koval each drew bases loaded walks to extend the lead to 7-0.
Moravian (10-10) cut the lead to 7-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Albright answered.
Fretz was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning and stole his third base of the game. High ripped a triple to right center to score Fretz and High scored on a sacrifice fly by Santone to increase the lead to 9-3.
Albright will return to Commonwealth Conference play on Friday (April 10) when the Lions visit Widener for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
