READING, Pa. – Junior forward
Emily Sousa led Albright past Delaware Valley 4-0 with a two-goal performance on Saturday at Shirk Stadium.
With the win Albright improved to 3-4-2 on the year, while Delaware Valley dropped to 2-6-1 on the season.
The Lions put an end of their four game winless streak with one of their top offensive performances of the season. Albright's four goals marked its second highest scoring match of the season, second only to its five-goal performance in a victory over Penn State Altoona.
Sousa continued her recent hot streak as she now has recorded a point in four straight matches and has four goals in the last three matches. With her two goals against Delaware Valley she took over the team lead with five on the season.
The Lions freshman goalkeeper
Payton Bogatch earned her first career win, and combined shutout, to improve to 1-1 on the season. She made two saves in 45 minutes of play against the Aggies.
Christine Allison came in relief playing 29 minutes plus of action while sophomore
Emily Sears saw 15 minutes of play between the pipes making three saves.
Albright started the match strong on the offensive side by posting three shots within the first five minutes of play. Sousa tallied the first goal of the match with 7:41 showing on the clock to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Sousa scored her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season at the 32
nd minute as
Rebecca Mallon was credited with the assist. The Lions offense was not done in the first 45 minutes of play. The third goal of the match came off a header from
Erica Bross off a free kick from
Emily Mollica.
At halftime, Albright held a commanding 3-0 lead over Delaware Valley as the Lions outshot the Aggies 18-4 and earned four corner kicks to their opponents none.
Less than 10 minutes into the second frame, the Lions
Megan O'Brien scored her second goal of the year to put Albright up 4-0 as
Dylan Shipe earned the assist.
For the contest, Albright outshot Delaware Valley 31-11. The Lions garnered six corner kicks for the match, while the Aggies were unable to collect one.
Sousa spearheaded the offense with 10 shots as eight of them were on target.
Natalie Wilson followed with four of her own.
Up next, Albright will take on FDU-Florham on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium in non-conference play.
