Natalie Wilson and
Erica Bross each scored goals, but Ellie McKinstry scored at the 6:38 mark of the second overtime lifting the Penn State Berks women's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference victory over Albright on Saturday at the Turf Field on the campus of Penn State Berks.
It was a disappointing result for Albright as the Lions held a lead late into the second half before Penn State Berks got the equalizer to send the match into extra time.
Penn State Berks, which improved to 1-0-1 on the season, got on the scoreboard first when Lizzie Mummau chipped a shot into the back of the net at the 20:40 mark of the first half for a 1-0 lead.
Albright would rally to tie the score just 1:17 later when Bross scored her first career goal off of a corner kick.
Megan O'Brien and
Emily Sousa assisted on the match-tying goal.
Albright, which dropped to 1-1 on the season, took the lead at the 62:39 mark of the second stanza when Wilson scored off another Sousa assist giving the Lions a 2-1 advantage. It marked the third goal of the season for Wilson, which tied her goal total for all of 2014.
Albright would hold the lead until late in the second period.
Brennan Moyer scored with 2:42 remaining in regulation off a feed from Chrissy Smith that tied the score at 2-2 and forced overtime.
Neither side was able to generate an offensive attack in the first overtime as they were only able to muster one shot apiece.
Albright had three shots in the second overtime, but Penn State Berks keeper Paige Elmy made two saves and the other shot was not on goal.
Christine Allison made four saves in net for Albright, but absorbed the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Wilson had six shots to pace the Albright attack, while Sousa had three shots. Bross, O'Brien and
Taylor Cassedy each had one shot for the Lions.
Albright returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 9) when it travels to DeSales for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
