Ringgold Scores Career High 27 in Loss to Lycoming

READING, Pa. -- Albright junior Omari Ringgold scored a career-high 27 points, but David Johnson led four players in double figures with 25 points as Lycoming defeated the Lions 82-77 in overtime on Wednesday in a MAC Commonwealth game in the Bollman Center.

Ringgold finished the game 11-of-16 from the floor and made 5-of-7 three-point attempts to surpass his previous career high of 25 points. Sophomore DeJuan Smith also topped the 20-point plateau as he scored 21 points.

Lycoming, which improved to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play, seized control midway through the overtime period.

A steal by Jaylin Calloway and an ensuing layup by Ringgold gave Albright a 72-71 lead with 3:18 to play in the overtime session.

Lycoming answered with a 6-0 run, which was capped by a jumper by Johnson, which gave the Warriors a 77-72 lead with 1:19 left in overtime.

Ringgold scored inside for the Lions to trim the lead to 77-74 with 1:03 to play, but five consecutive free throws from Lycoming increased the Warriors lead to 82-74 with 11 seconds left in the extra session.

Johnson, who was 8-of-8 from the free throw line, also added three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Chris Wallace had 16 points and 17 rebounds and Nykolas King finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors. Alex Newbold also reached double figures with 11 points and he also added nine rebounds.

Albright, which dropped to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in league play, appeared headed for a victory when Ringgold converted a short jumper giving the Lions a 62-57 lead with 4:43 to play in the second half.

Johnson scored a layup and then added two free throws, which cut the Albright lead to 62-61 with 3:07 left in the second period.

Smith upped the Albright lead to 63-61 with a free throw, but Johnson tied the game with a layup and then put the Warriors in front with another layup giving Lycoming a 65-63 lead with 2:24 left in regulation.

Thomas Vazzana tied the game at 65-65 with a power move inside and following a pair of missed free throws the Lions regained the lead at 67-65 when Ringgold converted a layup with 55 seconds left to play in the period.

Johnson had the equalizer for Lycoming as he muscled up a layup that knotted the score at 67-67 with 35 seconds left in the period.

Both teams had chances to win the game at the end of regulation. Albright missed a pair of free throws with 6.5 seconds to play and the Warriors missed a contested layup at the buzzer.

Albright held a 10-point lead in the first half when Evan Ward converted a three-point play, but Lycoming closed the first half on a 7-0 run to close to within 32-29 at the intermission.

The game was tightly contested throughout and featured 12 ties and 16 lead changes.

Albright will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 16) when it faces Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth game in Glenside, Pa., beginning at 3 p.m.
