READING, Pa. -- Albright sophomore
DeJuan Smith scored a team high 17 points, but the Lions second-half rally fell short against Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen emerged with a 60-53 MAC Commonwealth victory over Albright on Monday in the Bollman Center.
The game was rescheduled for Monday after being postponed twice to the snow that fell in the Reading area over the weekend.
Lebanon Valley shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the first half and took a 33-22 lead into the intermission before the Lions rallied in the second half.
Albright fell behind by 15 points and still trailed 50-36 with 9:36 to play in the game before storming back into the game.
Jared Rappoport hit a jumper and
Evan Dunn made a pair of free throws to cut the LVC lead to 50-40 with 8:33 left in the second period.
Andy Orr made 1-of-2 free throws for the Dutchmen to up the lead to 51-40, but Albright responded with a 7-0 run.
Jaylin Calloway made 1-of-2 free throws and
Evan Ward and
Omari Ringgold each made a pair of free throws to cut the margin to 51-45 with 4:27 to play in the game.
Dunn capped the run with a spinning reverse layup that brought Albright to within 51-47 at the 4:14 mark of the second half.
Zach Mrozek ended the run with a pair of free throws, but Smith answered with a jumper to trim the lead to 53-49 with 3:48 remaining in the game.
Orr scored inside and Will Coccanfuso added a free throw to up the lead to 56-49 at the 2:24 mark of the contest.
Smith made two free throws for Albright, but Orr made a free throw and Sam Light was successful on two free throw attempts to give Lebanon Valley a 59-51 lead with 34 seconds remaining in the game.
Dunn scored on a dunk, but Light sealed the victory with a free throw with 11 seconds left to play.
Albright, which dropped to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in league play, held Lebanon Valley to just 29.2 percent shooting from the floor in the second half to get back into the game.
Smith finished the game 7-of-15 from the field and also added six rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal to lead the Lions.
Ringgold finished with nine points and Ward added seven points and five rebounds. Rapporport had six points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot for the Lions.
Orr was 7-of-10 from the floor and scored a game-high 21 points. He also added nine rebounds, four blocked shots and two assists for the Dutchmen.
Light added 16 points and Mrozek finished with six points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals for LVC.
Lebanon Valley, which improved to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the MAC Commonwealth, used a run late in the first period to pull away from the Lions.
The Dutchmen broke a 14-14 deadlock with a 9-0 run to take control of the half. Light scored six straight points and Travis Conrad finished the run with a three-pointer giving LVC a 23-14 lead with 5:44 left to play in the first half.
Lebanon Valley took a 33-22 lead into the halftime when Kyler Burke converted a layup with 50 seconds left in the first period.
Albright returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 27) when it visits Widener for a MAC Commonwealth game at 8 p.m.
