Evan Ward recorded his fifth double-double in the last six games with 11 points and 15 rebounds and sophomore
Brandon Lindsay scored 12 second-half points as Albright rallied to defeat Widener 67-65 in a MAC Commonwealth game on Wednesday in the Bollman Center.
Albright trailed by four at halftime and were down 44-39 with 12:05 to play before storming back.
A three-point play by
Calvert Gantz cut the Widener lead to 44-42 with 11:49 to play, but Laron Byrd answered with a jumper to increase the lead to 46-42 at the 11:01 mark of the second half.
Lindsay drilled a three-pointer to trim the lead to 46-45, but Byrd converted a free throw to push the Pride lead to 47-45 with 10:03 left to play.
Lindsay made two free throws to tie the game at 47-47 and put the Lions ahead to stay at 50-47 with a three-pointer at the 8:54 mark of the half. He added a layup and Ward capped a 10-0 Albright run with a three-point play that gave the Lions a 55-47 lead with 7:41 remaining in the game.
David Nicholson ended the run with a jumper for Widener, but
Jaylin Calloway converted a three-pointer that gave Albright a 58-49 lead with 6:57 to play in the period.
Albright stretched the lead to as many as 10 points on three occasions including when
DeJuan Smith scored inside with 3:26 to play giving the Lions a 66-56 lead.
Widener would mount a charge of its own as Sardayah Sambo hit a layup to cut the lead to 66-58, but
Omari Ringgold made a free throw for Albright that pushed the lead to 67-58 with 1:59 left to play.
Nicholson drilled a three-pointer and Kendall Green scored inside following an Albright turnover to cut the lead to 67-63 with 1:30 left in the contest.
Following another Albright turnover, Nicholson scored inside to bring Widener to within 67-65 with 39 seconds to play.
Albright misfired on a three-pointer and Sambo rebounded the miss, but Widener dribbled out the remaining six seconds on the clock without getting a shot away.
Ward finished the game 5-of-7 from the floor and tied his career high with 15 rebounds. He also added three assists in his 34 minutes of action.
Albright placed five players in double figures in scoring for the second time this season as Ringgold finished with 13 points and Gantz and Smith each had 10 points for the Lions.
Sambo scored a game-high 20 points to lead Widener, while Green had 15 points and Nicholson finished with 13 points.
Albright improved to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Widener dropped to 5-7 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 9) when it visits Messiah for a MAC Commonwealth game beginning at 5 p.m.
