Thomas, Harris Lead No. 14 Albright Past Widener

READING, Pa.Shannon Thomas and Kelecia Harris combined to score 41 points and No. 14 Albright shot 65.5 percent from the floor in the second half as the Lions defeated Widener 86-70 on Wednesday in a MAC Commonwealth game in the Bollman Center.
 
Thomas led the Lions with a season-high 21 points, while Harris finished with 20 points as Albright rebounded from its only loss of the season on Monday to No. 2 Amherst to improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
 
After making just 14-of-35 field goal attempts in the first half, Albright made 19-of-29 from the floor in the second half as it notched a season-high 86 points which topped the previous high of 84 scored against Lancaster Bible in the season opener.
 
Harris also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to post her fourth double-double of the season. The senior made 9-of-12 shots from the floor and also added four blocked shots.
 
Devan Horka helped spark the Lions second-half output as she scored 11 of her season-high 13 points after the intermission. She was 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line in the second half.
 
Albright held a slim four-point lead midway through the third quarter before pulling away from the Pride.
 
Brianna Wylie, who led Widener with 26 points, scored inside to cut Albright's lead to 44-40 with 6:31 to play in the third quarter.
 
Thomas answered with a three-pointer and a layup to push the Lions lead to 49-40 with 5:33 to play in the third.
 
Ally Ferrucci responded with a jumper for Widener, but Thomas scored her eighth consecutive point with another three-pointer to give Albright a 52-42 lead with 4:21 to play in the third quarter.
 
A layup by Harris extended the Lions margin to 58-46, but Nikki Sutliff scored with four seconds to play in the quarter to trim the Albright lead to 58-48 after three quarters.
 
Albright used a 9-1 run midway through the fourth quarter to put the game away.
 
Four different Albright players scored during the run and Xio Toledo capped the outburst with a three-pointer that gave the Lions a 78-58 lead with 4:08 to play in the game.
 
Albright took its largest lead of the game at 84-61 when Toledo drilled her second three-pointer of the game with 2:12 to play in the game.
 
Widener, which dropped to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play, shot 51.7 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed by only 38-35 at halftime.
 
Albright will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 9) when it travels to Grantham, Pa., to face Messiah at 3 p.m. in a MAC Commonwealth game.
