Albright Beats King’s, 27-7, on Homecoming

READING, Pa. – The Albright football team amassed 456 total yards of offense as it defeated King's College, 27-7, on Homecoming on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium. Quarterback Alec Vignola completed 25-of-33 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Vinny Williams had 11 catches for 129 yards and two scores.

Vignola and Williams hooked up for the first score of the day. Vignola found Williams for a two-yard score with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter to cap a 14-play, 79-yard drive to make it 7-0 Lions. After the Albright defense held King's to a three and out, Vignola went to work again. He led the team 64 yards in six plays, capping this march with an 18-yard scoring strike to Milton Cordero. Albright had a 14-0 lead at the end of the first.

The Albright defense held strong after an interception by King's at the Albright 40. Kevin Mason had a sack on the series, and Alex Isaac broke up the pass on fourth down to turn the ball back over to the Albright offense. On the ensuing drive, Albright moved to the King's 28 before stalling. Kevin Goetz kicked a 45-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 8:39 left in the first half.

The score stayed that way until Albright's first drive of the second half. Vignola found Williams from 36 yards out this time to make it 24-0 with 10:26 left in the third. That capped a 10-play, 86-yard drive for the Lions.

King's scored its lone touchdown on the ensuing drive on a 21-yard run by Zach Whitehead to make it 24-7, but that would be as close as it would come to Albright. Goetz added a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to close the day's scoring at 27-7.

Vignola added 42 yards on the ground while Roemello Monroe led the team with 75 yards on 15 carries. Malik Jackson had six catches for 66 yards, and Cordero finished with four catches for 48 yards along with the touchdown reception.

David Sanchez led the defensive effort with eight tackles and a sack. Nico Williams had six tackles and two sacks, and Mason also had six tackles.

Albright has a bye next week before returning home to face FDU-Florham on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
