READING, Pa. – The Albright field hockey team used a goal and an assist from
Kaley Donmoyer to defeat Scranton, 2-1, Wednesday night at Shirk Stadium. The win moves the Lions to 8-2 on the season.
Donmoyer and
Amanda Long led the team with four shots apiece, and they both scored one of the team's goals. Scranton took a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into action when Katherine McVeagh chipped a ball over Albright keeper
Aileen Taylor. But that would be the only blemish on Taylor's record for the night. She finished with five saves.
Albright tied the score just over a minute later when
Dennise Greene streaked down the right side and found Donmoyer in front for a one-timer that beat keeper Claire McAllister. Greene also had two shots, both on goal.
The score stayed that way until early in the second half when Donmoyer sent a ball towards the net from the right side that was tipped in by Long on the far post. That punctuated a period of time early in the second half that was dominated by the Lions. Albright had five penalty corners in the first five minutes of the second half and finished with a 13-9 advantage in that category for the match. Albright also owned a 15-13 advantage in shots.
The Lions return to action at home Saturday against Widener at noon.
