READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as it defeated Moravian, 79-69, on Saturday afternoon.
Devan Horka led the team with 20 points.
Alysha Lofton recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lions (7-1) jumped out to a 10-point lead on two different occasions in the first quarter.
Nina Mazzarelli hit a three pointer with 2:03 left in the period to make it 21-11, and Lofton put the lead back at 10 points with a layup on the next possession. Mazzarelli had eight points and four rebounds.
Moravian (7-3) punched back in the second quarter as it cut the Albright lead down to a point twice in the final minute. On both occasions, Horka responded with baskets to keep Moravian behind. Horka's jumper on a pass from
Jane Joyce in the final seconds of the half sent the Lions into the break with a 44-41 lead. In the first half, Horka scored 18 of her 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
The Lions went on a 10-2 run over the last 3:13 of the third quarter to push their lead to 12 on
MiKayla Lea's layup at the buzzer. Lea scored five of the points on that run, and the buzzer beater pushed the Albright lead to 67-55 after three quarters. Lea finished with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Shannon Thomas scored six points in the fourth period as Albright allowed Moravian to get no closer than six in the final quarter. Thomas was the fourth player to reach double figures for Albright, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Joyce had eight points and seven assists.
Albright returns to action at DeSales on Dec. 20.
